The sounds that thrive on the street.

The dedicated sounds of street musicians can be found anywhere in Chicago, but take a stroll down State street or Michigan Avenue in the Loop on a warm day and you’re likely to be greeted by dozens of talents and genres as you pass.

“Behind and All Around” is a short documentary project that explores the ways music is perceived in different spaces, specifically when it’s played in a space that isn’t dedicated for live music.

This short was the first of three projects for a “Sound and Vision” class that I took in the Fall of 2023 where everyone was tasked with making a documentary using only five original photographs and two minutes of self-recorded audio. Hope you enjoy!
